The city of Washougal is bringing back its Citizen Academy this fall.
The second installment of the program, which debuted earlier this year, is to begin on Sept. 4 and will run through Oct. 9. The academy will run for six weeks with sessions held on Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. at Washougal City Hall, 1701 C Street, Washougal. Participants are expected to attend at least five sessions though full participation is strongly encouraged.
The Citizen Academy is a six-week course designed to strengthen community engagement by educating residents about the inner workings of local government, according to a news release.
“Our first academy was a huge success, and we’re incredibly excited to keep the momentum going,” said Rose Jewell, the city’s community engagement manager and head of the Citizen Academy. “The energy and passion of our first group showed us just how much our residents care about their city. This program helps build trust, relationships, and an even stronger sense of community.”
Participants will gain insights into a variety of topics, including general government, finance and budget, community development, public works, public safety, and community services and strategy.
Twelve applicants will be selected by the city’s Community Services and Strategy Committee. The application period will close July 29, and applicants will be notified by Aug. 8.
The program is free of charge, and all materials will be provided. For more information and to apply, visit cityofwashougal.us/CitizenAcademy.
