Washougal postpones National Night Out because of air quality concerns

The city of Washougal and the Washougal Police Department have postponed their National Night Out event, originally scheduled for Aug. 4, because of forecasted poor air quality from wildfire smoke.

City officials said the decision was made after consulting with the Camas-Washougal Fire Department and reviewing forecasts from the National Weather Service, which indicate smoke from nearby wildfires, combined with expected wind patterns, dry conditions and high temperatures, could create unhealthy air quality in the area.

The city plans to reschedule the community event later this summer when air quality conditions improve. It will post updates on air quality conditions and a new event date on its website.
