News, Washougal The city of Washougal has been recognized as a JustServe City, an honor celebrating volunteerism and community service efforts.
Todd Richardson and Marilyn Richardson, regional coordinators for JustServe, presented the designation to the Washougal City Council on during an Aug. 24 council meeting.
“A city can’t prosper on its own. It needs people who care, and it starts with neighborhoods, communities and families,” Washougal Mayor David Stuebe said during the meeting. “If we solve problems there, we keep them from turning into a thousand problems down the road. From the folks with the green buckets (picking up trash) to groups like the Washougal Citizens Alliance out every Saturday cleaning up SR-14, there are a lot of great people who, every day, care about making this a great community.”
JustServe is a free online platform that connects volunteers with local service opportunities and allows organizations to post projects where help is needed. The platform is sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but is open to volunteers and organizations of all backgrounds.
“One of the things we love about JustServe is that it makes it easier for people who want to help to find meaningful ways to serve right in their own community,” Lisa Allen, Vancouver East Stake JustServe specialist, said in a news release. “We’re excited to see those connections continue to grow and to help even more people discover the joy that comes from serving their neighbors.”
