Two people suspected of burglarizing the restaurant at Camas Meadows golf club on Christmas Eve were arrested after their vehicle ran out of gas a few miles away, according to the Camas Police Department.

James Bailey, 51, and Camille Parayo, 37, were arrested early Wednesday morning on suspicion of second-degree burglary and third-degree theft, as well as attempted burglary related to a separate incident Dec. 22 at the club, according to a police news release.

A Camas police officer was responding to a cold burglary at Camas Meadows, 4105 N.W. Camas Meadows Drive, and found a disabled vehicle blocking a lane of the 100 block of Southeast 192nd Avenue, the news release states. Two Vancouver police units were already stopped with the vehicle.

The Camas officer recognized the car as matching the description of the vehicle involved in the attempted burglary at the same business two days prior, the news release states.

After coordinating with Vancouver officers and the business manager, police determined the occupants of the disabled vehicle were involved in the morning’s burglary. The vehicle had reportedly run out of fuel as the suspects tried to flee the scene, according to the news release.

Police recovered approximately $2,000 worth of boxed seafood, frozen cuts of meat, sausage patties and french fries from the suspects’ car, that was taken during the burglary, the news release states.

“When our businesses are targeted for burglaries, it has negative impacts for the business owners and drives up prices for consumers,” Camas Police Chief Tina Jones said in the news release. “This capture is the result of good old-fashioned police work and coordination with our Vancouver Police Department partners. Once again, our team members apprehended some Christmas Eve grinches.”

Both Bailey and Parayo were booked into the Clark County Jail.
