The city of Washougal presented a Community Impact Award to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints full-time missionaries during its Jan. 12 meeting, celebrating their “enduring commitment to service.”
More than 260 missionaries from around the world have served Washougal for more than 20 years, according to the city.
“Through their participation in Community Days of Service, the Washougal Schools Foundation, National Night Out, Pumpkin Harvest, the Christmas Parade, Refuel Friday, the reading program, Washougal School District Family Nights, and support of the Children’s Home Society, these missionaries have made a meaningful and lasting impact,” the award states.
Bryson Blaser, Levi Slocombe, elders from the Washington Vancouver Mission, received the award on behalf of many missionaries who have served in the region in various capacities.
“We had no idea we were being considered for an award. We simply love to serve in any way the Savior would,” the missionaries said in a joint statement on the Good Works Clark County Facebook page. “We love helping people come closer to Jesus Christ and strengthening the overall welfare of the community.”
