Local singers of ‘a certain age’ open Washougal motocross event with ‘Star-Spangled Banner’

Members of group say it’s never too late to try something new

For most people, retirement is a time to slow down. For six Clark County singers, it’s become a chance to step into the spotlight.

The newly formed vocal group, which calls itself Grateful Not Dead Yet, a tongue-in-cheek nod to its members’ ages, was to perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the opening ceremonies of the 2026 Washougal National motocross event last week. The sextet is celebrating the notion that new passions don’t come with an expiration date.
