Signs of spring

With spring-like weather making an early appearance this year, many local residents are flocking to area parks and trails to play, exercise or simply enjoy the beauty.

Lauren Weber, 17, (pictured above) along with her parents, Dawn and Bob, and brother, Matthew, 19, live on five acres in the Livingston Mountain area of Camas. The family has five Bernese mountain dogs, including siblings, Link and Zee, 9, as well as Apple, 5, Gloree, 3 and Bruno, 2. Berners are working dogs with origins in the farm areas of Switzerland. They are known for their calm nature and developing a strong attachment to their owners. Gloree (pictured above) has proven to be a great show dog who loves to perform and travel. "Gloree is really smart. She learns things really quickly," Lauren said. "She also loves riding in cars. She gets mad when you don't bring her along. She took to (participating in dog shows) really well."

‘The dream come true’

A Camas teen and her Bernese mountain dog recently competed in the Super Bowl of dog shows -- Westminster.
