Photographers show there’s much to love about Camas

What do you love about Camas? That was the question posed by the staff at the Camas Public Library, who challenged local amateur photographers to hit the streets, cameras in hand, and document the interesting, unique, strange and beautiful things that make Camas stand out from the rest. The results of this challenge are now on display at the Second Story Gallery at the library, in a show that features more than 25 entries from 13 amateur photographers as young as 9 years old.

Senior citizens are active

When you really take a close look, senior citizens are truly the backbone of our society. Many have contributed immensely throughout their lifetimes. Whether through a career, raising a family, or community outreach, in their possession are the life experiences, knowledge and wisdom that most of us are working toward gaining -- mostly through trial and error -- whether we want to admit it or not.

High impact

An event that has been described as "life changing" for some local students was recently held in Camas. SEMI High Tech U, which this year included participation from Hewlett-Packard, WaferTech, Clark College and each entity's employees, offers an introduction to high tech concepts and career possibilities for high school students.

Is your child reading & spelling at grade level? Reading is fundamental and essential for academic success. So, what do you do when your child is not reading at grade level? Consider the following scenario. Steve is a sixth grade student with a reading disability. Although Steve is very smart and shows great strengths in math and the ability to work with his hands, he is reading at the third-grade level.

From excitement that it's all finally over and relief to at least have a bit of a break from the daily academic grind, to anticipation for what the future might hold and maybe a little bit of fear about making those big decisions that can truly impact the direction their lives will take, the feelings truly run the gamut....
