The Camas High School slowpitch softball team is maintaining a positive outlook despite a slow start to its 2021 season.
The Camas girls soccer team capped a successful 2019 campaign with a disappointing loss to Enumclaw in a 4A District 3/4 tournament game that it thought it should’ve won. The Papermakers went undefeated during the 2020 season, but couldn’t prove themselves against the best teams in Washington due to the absence of the 4A state tournament, cancelled by the COVID-19 pandemic.

After a tumultuous 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, prep sports in Camas-Washougal are off to a more normal start this fall. Washougal native Levi Kitchen was awarded the Nicky Hayden American Motocross Association’s Horizon Award, presented annually to the amateur motocross racer with the most promising professional career, earlier this month.
After the Camas Heat youth basketball team defeated its opponent to win the boys 11-and-under division championship at the 2021 Oregon Hoopla 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament in Salem, Oregon, on Aug. 8, the vanquished squad’s coach approached Camas coach Jeremy Fogle and said, “We just can’t get over the ‘Camas hump.’”
With the return of full regular-season schedules, state tournaments and mask-free competition, many prep sports in Camas and Washougal will look and feel more familiar this year.
