Pivotal election season is ahead

In just six days, the filing period for people who want to run for elected office will open. In-person filing begins at 8 a.m. on Monday, and continues through 5 p.m. on Friday at the Clark County Elections Office in Vancouver. Many candidates have already announced their intention to run for office. But filing week will reveal what are likely to be people who have made that late-breaking decision to step into the county, state and federal government elected office spotlight.

Washougal students prepare to Stride

One of the Washougal Schools Foundation's most popular events is gearing up for its 11th year. The Student Stride for Education will be held Saturday, May 17, at Fishback Stadium at Washougal High School. The day starts at 8 a.m. with the 5K run/walk, which is open to the public. It is followed by grade level races and ends with the Dash, a quarter-mile race for kids in preschool and younger.

CHS students perform at state solo contest

On Saturday, April 25, five musicians from Camas High School competed in this year's state instrumental and vocal music solo contest, held at Central Washington University in Ellensburg. Each student earned the right to compete by winning their category at the Lower Columbia River Music Educators regional competition at Union High School on Feb. 22.

Garden Club offering scholarships The Community Garden Club of Camas-Washougal is awarding scholarships to graduating high school seniors in the local community. The club supports furthering education in earth sciences and envirnomental stewardship, according to a press release.
