A Camas optometrist has received a statewide honor from his peers. Dr. Raj Patel, a partner and president of Vancouver Vision Clinic, received the "President's Special Recognition Award" from the Optometric Physicians of Washington. The award, presented during the professional association's annual meeting in September, in Portland, recognizes his involvement and leadership in the association.
A woman who has 40 years' experience in baking and cake decorating is teaching classes on those topics at the Fern Prairie Community Grange. Linda Rafn runs a business that provides baked goods for weddings and other events. She has worked in bakeries and taught classes through schools and community education.

When it comes to the hotly debated issue of making Washington state the first in the nation to legalize marijuana, there are a few areas that both proponents and opponents of Initiative 502 can likely agree upon. Seventy-seven points in a game might be a new school record for the Camas football team. The Papermakers crushed Evergreen 77-28 Friday, at Doc Harris Stadium. It is the most points Camas has scored in a game for more than half a century. "It makes me realize how lucky we are to have the support from the Camas community," said junior quarterback Reilly Hennessey. "You don't realize until you're out there how many people are living vicariously though you, cheering for you, screaming and yelling out your name."
