Dr. Raj Patel receives ‘President’s Special Recognition Award’

A Camas optometrist has received a statewide honor from his peers. Dr. Raj Patel, a partner and president of Vancouver Vision Clinic, received the "President's Special Recognition Award" from the Optometric Physicians of Washington. The award, presented during the professional association's annual meeting in September, in Portland, recognizes his involvement and leadership in the association.

Family living classes are taught at Fern Prairie Community Grange

A woman who has 40 years' experience in baking and cake decorating is teaching classes on those topics at the Fern Prairie Community Grange. Linda Rafn runs a business that provides baked goods for weddings and other events. She has worked in bakeries and taught classes through schools and community education.

Vote ‘no’ to legalize marijuana in Washington

When it comes to the hotly debated issue of making Washington state the first in the nation to legalize marijuana, there are a few areas that both proponents and opponents of Initiative 502 can likely agree upon. For starters, both sides would probably agree there is no clear cut verdict on what both the short and long term effect of marijuana is on users, even though impaired judgement and memory and impaired critical thinking skills might be a conclusion many of us might make.

Where is the justice? Our Constitution states "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice,..." Yes, "to establish Justice" is stated in our Constitution. Where is "justice" in a tax code that allows millionaires and corporations to pay a smaller percentage of federal income taxes than our working citizens?

Camas football crushes Evergreen

Seventy-seven points in a game might be a new school record for the Camas football team. The Papermakers crushed Evergreen 77-28 Friday, at Doc Harris Stadium. It is the most points Camas has scored in a game for more than half a century. "It makes me realize how lucky we are to have the support from the Camas community," said junior quarterback Reilly Hennessey. "You don't realize until you're out there how many people are living vicariously though you, cheering for you, screaming and yelling out your name."
