Camas City Council approves contract with consultant

Camas Mayor Scott Higgins is hoping a $23,000 contract with a consulting company to conduct the search for a new city administrator will lead to a better result than the last effort. On Monday night, the Camas City Council approved the agreement with Waldron, a human resources consulting firm with an office in Portland. The company has expertise in conducting job recruitment efforts with public, private and non-profit entities.

Lacamas Community Credit Union’s 192nd Avenue branch was remodeled

Lacamas Community Credit Union will host a grand re-opening event following the remodel of its 192nd Avenue Branch in Camas. The event will be held Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 9:30 a.m., at the branch located at 19200 S.E. 31st St. It will include a ribbon cutting ceremony, branch tours, XBOX competitions, as well as opportunities to meet credit union staff. A continental breakfast will also be served.

Camas Antiques holds silent auction for tool box

Camas Antiques is holding a silent auction for a mill wright tool box with contents. The tool box was used by John Zeigler, a millwright at the Camas paper mill from the 1920s to 1950s. In the box are more than 100 pieces, including planes, drills, saws and even a foot-and-a-half long monkey wrench. While some tools are old and "obsolete," others could be sharpened for use or put on display for decoration.

Priority Health seeks food for backpack program

A Camas chiropractic practice is teaming up with Share's backpack program to fight hunger in Clark County. This month, every person who brings in a new backpack filled with suggested, non-perishable foods will receive a free chiropractic adjustment. Individuals who are new to the clinic will receive a free chiropractic consultation, examination and "Myovision scan."

A local physician who owns Transformations Spa MD has been recognized for distinguishing herself through service to family medicine. Dr. Susan Hughes, of Camas, is one of three Washington medical doctors to receive the 2012 Degree of Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
