The Panthers’ tennis duo of Beyonce Bea and Rebecca Boylan are district champions.
The undefeated doubles team from Washougal played a pretty easy first round against Columbia River’s second doubles team at the district championships, held May 18, at Mint Valley in Longview, Washington.
Then, in the second round, the Panthers faced a team from W.F. West that had knocked Bea and Boylan out of the district tournament twice over the past two years.
Bea and Boylan took control, winning the set 6-2 and 6-1.
Their coach, Angela Watts, said everything they’ve worked on in practice — mentally, physically and strategically — came together in beautiful fashion.
“The first set, my girls were on fire and playing the best tennis I have ever seen them play,” Watts said.
The next day, Bea and Boylan played in the championship match against Centralia.
Both teams held their serves in the first set, but the Washougal duo was finally able to break and took the first set 7-5. In the second set, Bea and Boylan started recognizing more weaknesses on Centralia’s team and attacked those weaknesses, taking the second set 6-4 and winning first place.
