The Camas Police Department honored several officers and staff members during its annual awards ceremony, recognizing outstanding service and leadership in 2025 during its Annual Awards Ceremony, held May 1 at Camas Church of the Nazarene.

Chief Tina Jones praised the department’s broader efforts, saying the awards represent only “some of the best work” from the past year.

“For yet another year, our team continued to serve our community with excellence,” Jones said. “I am extremely proud of our team members’ contributions in serving our great community.”

Officer Brent Mayhugh received the Chief Leadership Award for his work as a school resource officer. Chief Tina Jones said Mayhugh’s “superpower” was building relationships with students and staff, particularly those with special needs and credited those connections with helping resolve difficult situations and strengthening trust between police and schools.

Officer Henry Scott was named Sworn Staff Member of the Year after leading the department in arrests and ranking among the highest in calls for service and traffic stops.

Records Lead Shawna Sommerville earned Professional Staff Member of the Year for guiding the records division through staffing turnover while recruiting and training new employees.

The Camas Police Department also presented Civilian Service Awards to community members whose actions helped save lives.

Brian Huynh was recognized after requesting a welfare check in June 2025 for a patient who had missed a follow-up appointment after a fall. Officers found the patient injured and unable to move, and police said Huynh’s quick action likely prevented her condition from worsening.

Katelyn Springer was also honored for performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation for seven minutes on a collapsed patient at an assisted living facility in January before officers and medics arrived. Emergency responders said her efforts were critical to saving the life of the patient, who later made a full recovery.
