Jason Spicer and his sister Jocelyn Spicer Shedden and brother-in-law Randy Shedden (not pictured) have purchased Corner Cupboard Cafe Bakery, in Washougal. The restaurant now serves country dinners, as well as breakfast, lunch and homemade baked goods. There are plans to remodel the eatery in the spring and add pizza to the menu.

Washougal eatery is expanding the possibilities

A longtime local business is under the ownership of several members of the same family. Jason Spicer, his sister Jocelyn Spicer Shedden and brother-in-law Randy Shedden, have purchased Corner Cupboard Cafe Bakery, in Washougal, from Leonard and Rachael Spencer. Family involvement in the restaurant also includes the Spicers' brother Gregory Spicer, sister Judith Spicer-Qualman and nephew Chris Eversaul. "We are two of nine kids," Jason Spicer said of him and Jocelyn. They live in Washougal.

Quilt shop will open its doors in March in downtown Camas

A quilt shop will be the newest addition to the downtown Camas business landscape. Washougal resident Nancy Sullivan will open River Quilts at 337 N.E. Fourth Ave., next to Runyan's Jewelers, in March. An exact date has not been determined.

MacKay & Sposito adds to construction management team

MacKay & Sposito, Inc. has announced the hiring of four individuals with construction management experience. Karl Maritt, of Washougal, studied general scence at the University of Houston, and drafting and math at Dallas County Community College. He has more than 10 years of project management experience, including manufacturing equipment and interior finish construction.

Oliver’s earns national exposure

A restaurant in downtown Camas is listed as a "best new suburban restaurant" outside Portland. The designation by Food & Wine magazine is published in the February issue. "Already we're getting calls from groups that want to come to Camas for the afternoon to have lunch, spend some time in town and visit the local shops," said Oliver's Chef Morris Fenton. "That's one of the things we were hoping would come out of it."

Jerry Nies (pictured) recently sold Nies Insurance Agency, Inc., of Battle Ground, Vancouver and Camas to Fullerton & Company, Inc., of Portland. Nies said the business will continue to operate under the same name, with the same staff.  Changes will include the offering of additional services.

Nies Insurance is sold to Portland company

Nies Insurance Agency, Inc., of Camas, Vancouver and Battle Ground has been purchased by Fullerton & Company, Inc., of Portland. Fullerton is a subsidiary of Brown & Brown, Inc., of Daytona Beach and Tampa, Fla. "We're going to continue to operate under the name Nies Insurance," said Nies President Jerry Nies. "We have a long term lease [for the building in downtown Camas]. Service to our local community in Camas, Washougal and the greater East County area, will remain pretty much exactly the way it is with the same staff."

‘Girls Night Out’ to benefit American Heart Association

Area women are invited to bring their friends to a second Girls Night Out, at Fireworks Photography, in Washougal. The "Red Hot Glam" evening, hosted by Moxie and Fireworks Photography, will be held Saturday, from 6 to 10 p.m. It will include wine, hors d'oeuvres and personalized pin-up, beauty or burlesque make-up applications and photos.

Fleurish grand opening will be held Jan. 11

The owner of Lily Atelier and Luxe, in downtown Camas, has opened Fleurish - a shop that sells gifts and home decor - in the 192nd Plaza. Dawn Stanchfield will host the grand opening of Fleurish Tuesday, Jan. 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. Desserts and cocktails will be available. There is no cost to attend. Authors Susan Glavin of Camas and Angie Cherry of Washougal, along with Debbie Oliver and Cheri Anderson, will attend and sign copies of their new book "Be the Gift." The books, which sell for $19.95 each, include sections about connecting, inspiring and acting.

An upcoming event will provide the opportunity for local professionals to network. The "New Year's Networking Extravaganza" will be held Wednesday, Jan. 12, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the Clark County Event Center. The event is being co-hosted by Matthew Ferris, the new marketing manager for the Clark County Events Center, and the Women in Networking group.
