Washougal Post Office to host Customer Appreciation Day

Customers of the Washougal Post Office are invited to stop by the facility Tuesday, July 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. "Our customers are the reason we exist, so I think it's important to recognize and thank them for their loyal business and support," said Postmaster Stephanie Rhine.

Mountainview House seeks arts and crafts vendors for community party

A community party at Mountainview House will include a Wii game competition, bounce house, painting lessons and vendors. Additional arts and crafts vendors are invited to participate in the Senior Fair & Family Day, Saturday, Aug. 16, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Demonstrations of dexterity

Washougal students and families enjoyed a combination of skillful juggling, demonstrations and learning about the laws of gravity at Rhys Thomas' "Jugglemania" performance on July 7 at Hathaway Elementary School. This was the first of five free events this summer that are open to the public and held in the Hathaway School gym at 630 24th St., Washougal.

Commissioners’ mining overlay vote is a good first step

I had the honor of seeing our county government and citizens in action lately when I was invited to give the Invocation at the County Commissioners meeting last month on June 3. I had picked the date at random and arrived to find a packed hearing and the kind of testimony that makes your hands shake and your voice crack. Almost everyone in the room was there because they felt their families, their homes, and their quality of life was at stake. The tension was palpable.

Missing Camas teen found safe in Oregon

Angelic "Anji" Tracy Dean, who had been missing from her home in Camas since June 23, was found July 9 thanks to a tip from a woman living four states away. According to the Clark County Sheriff's Office, Dean, 17, was located by detectives at Clackamas Town Center in Happy Valley, Ore., approximately 18 miles from Camas. The Vancouver Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation assisted with the investigation.

Local students honored for their achievements

Thirty-two Washougal School District students earned Youth Achievement Awards from the Clark County Youth Commission. The 16th annual county-wide celebration was held at Skyview High School last month and recognized the achievement of youth who demonstrate, "personal growth and community contributions."
