Rice makes dean's list Zachary M. Rice of Camas has been named to the dean's list at Boston University for the fall semester. Each school and college at Boston University has its own criterion for the dean's list, but students generally must earn a 3.5 GPA or better, or be in the top 30 percent of their class, as well as take a full course load as a full-time student.

Public education bill would be costly

Superintendent of Public Instruction Randy Dorn has proposed a bill that would impose two major tax increases on residents in Washington to raise more money for public education. Calling his proposed tax increases a "blunt but necessary instrument," Dorn says the new taxes are needed to provide "full funding" for K-12 public education, in response to the supreme court's January 2012 McCleary v. State of Washington decision.

Riverview Community Bank recently announced the promotion of Daniel Cox to executive vice president and chief credit officer by the board of directors. "Since joining Riverview almost 12 years ago, advancing from a credit analyst to a commercial loan officer to running credit administration, Dan has made a major impact on our company. He has been instrumental in dramatically reducing our problem credits, crafting new policies and improving the loan approval process to better serve our stakeholders," said Ron Wysaske, president and chief operating officer of Riverview Community Bank. Urology Clinic to join The Vancouver Clinic

The Urology Clinic of Southwest Washington and its three urologists, Dr. Adrienne Heckler, Dr. Eric Kline, and Dr. Terry Milam, recently agreed to join The Vancouver Clinic. The goal is to integrate with The Vancouver Clinic by May 1. Dr. Douglas Masson, a Camas resident and president of The Urology Clinic, described joining The Vancouver Clinic as "the best possible way to continue to serve our patients."

Camas lands on list of top cities for home ownership

Camas was recently named one of the top cities in Washington to own a home. NerdWallet, a consumer advocacy website, conducted a study to find the top 20 best places for home ownership in Washington. Rankings were based on home ownership rates, selected monthly homeowner costs, monthly household income and population growth.

Jerome Kersey to visit Camas Dream Team camp Saturday

Jerome Kersey is scheduled to visit Saturday's portion of the Dream Team Camp at Liberty Middle School, 1612 N.E. Garfield St., in Camas. Kersey played for the Portland Trail Blazers between 1984 and 1995. He was also a part of the Los Angeles Lakers, the Seattle Supersonics, the San Antonio Spurs and the Milwaukee Bucks during his 17 years in the NBA.

Exploring their futures

Jemtegaard Middle School students were given the opportunity to explore a variety of possible careers at a recent career fair. "The 29 presenters included many Washougal residents and businesses," said David Cooke, principal. "Each student took part in three, half-hour presentations. The students picked two of their choices and we picked the other to expand their horizons." Some of the jobs included Secret Service agent, chiropractor, cosmetologist, pilot, detective, nurse, firefighter, movie director, videographer and surgical technician.
