County permit center remodel underway

The Clark County permit center has temporarily moved. With a remodel of its first floor space at the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St., now underway, yesterday the permit center opened for business on the second floor. Permit Center Manager Chuck Crider encourages customers to make appointments to avoid long waits.

Columbia Credit Union hires new assistant manager

Columbia Credit Union recently announced that it has hired a new assistant manger in Washougal. According to a press release, Darcie Williams will work with manager Ed Hakanovic to develop and manage a cohesive branch team focused on meeting credit union service, sales and operational goals. Williams will also be responsible for staff development, compliance and efficient branch operations.

Quality public education benefits all The dust has settled since the November election and as we head into a new year, I am thankful to the citizens of Camas who voted for me. Although I didn't win a director seat on the Camas School Board, I did appreciate the opportunity to seek the position representing the Camas community. My husband Ryan has been so supportive and patient and our three daughters have learned so much from my experience including the notion that in life we do the right thing, even if it is the hard thing.

Don’t celebrate county’s new growth just yet

In Camas, Washougal and Clark County overall, growth is happening. One need only drive down the west slope of Prune Hill and glance to the north at the number of bare hillside lots ready for construction, to see that many new homes will soon be built for new families moving in. But in case you haven't witnessed that stark scene in west Camas or in other locations in the community, a story published in The Columbian last week provided some new details of local growth.

Merry bright

Several local residents spent Thursday decorating Christmas trees, which this time of year is nothing unusual.However, their adorned evergreens were for the fourth annual Festival of Trees in Washougal. The event, held Friday and Saturday at Hathaway Elementary School and organized by the Washougal Lions Club, featured 19 decorated trees. These were auctioned off to raise money for local schools.

Connell graduates from pilot training Kristen Connell, 2008 graduate of Camas High School, and 2012 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, graduated from pilot training at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Okla., on Nov. 15.

Erin Carson of Camas is among 55 Linfield College students participating this fall in a study abroad program in China. Carson is studying at the China Studies Institute at Peking University in Beijing and living in student residence halls.

A business that expanded to downtown Camas two years ago is seeking a tenant for its retail/office space. Bead Paradise owners Shane and Desiree Woodward will continue to provide online and wholesale sales, as well as trunk shows.
