College planning events helps with financial aid, includes workshops Clark College and Washington State University Vancouver will again team up to host College Goal Washington.
Several local students have been named to the Warner Pacific College dean's list for the Fall 2013 academic term. To qualify, students must be enrolled full-time and achieve a 3.5 or greater grade point average.
Local business owners and merchants are invited to learn about executing practices for business growth. Keith Upkes, president and chief executive officer of The Upkes Group, will talk about business concepts from the book "Mastering the Rockefeller Habits," Thursday, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., at K'Syrah Catering, Wine and Bistro, 316 N.E. Dallas St., Camas. The session is free. Coffee and pastries will be provided.
Michael S. Lund Michael Shawn Lund died Dec. 30, 2013, at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, after a long, courageous battle with kidney disease. He was 39.

Consumer confidence, the stock market, world events, the housing market and local political events are the significant factors impacting the entrepreneurial spirit. As I look ahead, the future seems bright for small business and anything our policy makers can do to encourage this trend will be a key to job strength and stronger sales tax revenues moving forward. Small business owners do expect better sales in 2014 and overall have a strong degree of confidence in their sales and hiring plans for 2014. The Wall Street Journal and Vistage International just completed a survey showing an uptick in 2013 small business sales results with an expectation that 2014 will be even better.
Leadership Clark County is accepting early applications for candidates interested in joining the Class of 2015. A free information session will be held Tuesday, Jan. 14, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Educational Services District 112 offices, 2500 N.E. 65th Ave., Vancouver. The free session is an opportunity for candidates to learn more about the program, ask questions, and hear from alumni about their experiences.
WSU Vancouver to host Scholarships 101 information night Washington State University Vancouver will hold a "Scholarships 101" information night for students interested in learning how scholarships can help them pay for college. The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Dengerink Administration Building, Room 110, and is free and open to the public.
Melvin A. Scott Melvin Arnold Scott died peacefully, at his home in Camas, Dec. 24, 2013, as the Christmas clock began to play, "I'll be home for Christmas."
