The Washougal City Council has approved a resolution that urges Washington legislators and the State Department of Transportation to pursue a more cost effective alternative to the Columbia River Crossing Locally Preferred Alternative. The vote during the council meeting last night was 5 to 2, in favor of the resolution. Joyce Lindsay and Paul Greenlee voted in opposition. The resolution, prepared by councilwoman Jennifer McDaniel, mentions alternatives include the possible addition of new bridges of adequate height east of the I-205 bridge and west of the I-5 bridge. It also states that the city of Washougal is opposed to tolling the I-205 bridge, and it recognizes the I-5 bridge is not sufficient for today's traffic.

Leaders study the issues and decide what policy best supports the interests of their constituents as a whole. Politicians take a position based on what is best for the advancement of their own interests.
Washougal should stay neutral on CRC As a concerned citizen of Washougal, I am opposed to have my city create any kind of a resolution, pro or con, concerning the CRC project. This is a collaborative project that is 11 years in the making, legislatively it concerns the state of Oregon and the state of Washington and our federal government.
On Monday, Washington State Department of Transportation contractor Tapani Underground Inc. began pavement grinding to prepare state Route 14 in Camas and Washougal for its final layer of asphalt. "Final paving is very weather-dependent, but grinding can be done in pretty much any weather," said WSDOT Project Engineer Chris Tams. "Getting the grinding done up front means we can be ready to take advantage of every warm, dry day that comes along and get a good-quality layer of asphalt."
