Team ‘Mean Machine’ fares well at recent international robotics contest in St. Louis

The FIRST Robotics Team Mean Machine, based out of Camas, recently competed in the World Championships in St. Louis Missouri in the Newton Division. After three days of matches against the best in the world, Team Mean Machine was chosen by the second seeded team from Santa Barbara and another Michigan team to be a part of their alliance, earning them a spot in the elimination round.

Voters deserve the light rail vote promised

If anyone had any doubt why light rail to Vancouver is so controversial, look no further than what the city of Vancouver tried to do. In November 2011, voters approved Proposition 1, which raised the sales tax rate in the Clark County region by 0.2 percent. C-Tran officials promised voters then that the new revenue would raise between $8 million and $9 million per year, and they would use this new money to preserve the existing bus system and prevent further service cuts.

Camas bicyclist dies in Oregon highway crash

A Camas man was killed Saturday after being injured in a bicycling accident near Grand Ronde, Ore. According to Oregon State Police Senior Trooper Bridget Taylor, at approximately 2:25 p.m. on Highway 18 near milepost 24, Steven Dayley of Camas was riding a bicycle travelling westbound on the shoulder of the highway in a congested area. A westbound 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup, driven by Fred M. Moore III, 24, of Battle Ground, veered right to avoid traffic and struck Dayley.

Camas School Board to decide on boundary revisions

Last week, the Camas School Board heard testimony regarding the Boundary Review Committee's recommendation for boundary adjustments. If approved, changes will be effective in the fall of 2013. The next step in the process will take place at the regularly scheduled school board meeting Tuesday, May 29 at the Zellerbach Administration Center, 841 N.E. 22nd Ave., at 5:30 p.m.
