Camas schools will be unbalanced I would like to voice my concern over how the Camas School District is squandering away a rare opportunity to create a well-balanced socioeconomic student body population among all of its elementary and middle schools.
Two local dentists are challenging local residents to beat them to the finish line during Saturday'ss Student Stride for Education. The fundraising event for the Washougal Schools Foundation will be held at Washougal High School’s Fishback Stadium. Kindergarten, first- and second-grade students will run a 1.5K course, while third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students will run a 2K. Middle and high school students and adults will take part in the 5K run or walk or as volunteers. The final heat of the day is The Dash, a race for the “pre-kindy” crowd — just one lap around the track.
Filing week for the upcoming Primary election began yesterday and continues through Friday at 5 p.m. While there are no Camas or Washougal government positions up for re-election this year, local voters will cast their ballots for positions including U.S. senator and representative, statewide administrative offices including governor, State Supreme Court, and state legislative positions.
With the thrill of becoming league champions still fresh in the minds of the Washougal track and field athletes and coaches, the Panthers took center stage Friday by hosting the 2A sub-district meet. "This was our most important meet so far," said junior sprinter and jumper Kaitlyn Johnson. "I wanted the Panthers to come out and do well for the community, and to show everybody that Washougal is a track town." Fueled by the home-field advantage, Johnson set three new personal bests at the event. First, she won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.67 seconds. Then Johnson and her sister Kari, Kelsey Lagerquist and Katie Wright took second in the 400 relay in 51.82 seconds. Johnson finished the day by leaping 33 feet, 7 inches to second place in the triple jump.
Active youth contest seeks entrants Youth 18 and younger who enjoy exercising and eating healthy are encouraged to enter a contest sponsored by Clark County Public Health.
Students from Washougal High School participated in a culinary competition against three schools and came away winners. They competed against students from Woodland, Prairie and Battle Ground high schools in the fourth annual Clark County Culinary Competition April 21. The event was held at Battle Ground High School and was sponsored by Sodexo Food Services.

Earth Day was delightful in downtown Camas What a delightful way to spend Earth Day! The city of Camas showed an extraordinary ability to come together to beautify our charming downtown area. Helping hands came from the Mayor’s office, The Chamber of Commerce, the merchants, The DCA, the schools and the community at large. A flurry of activity involving pressure washers, shovels, rakes, brooms, new plantings and a topping of bark dust began in the early morning and continued until the end of the day.
