One man was arrested over the weekend after police surrounded a Camas home, but the person they were actually looking for remains at large. On Friday at approximately 8:30 p.m., Camas Police responded to a complaint of a wanted person at 4245 N.W. 12th Ave. Officers were trying to apprehend 22-year-old Husam Z. Al-Ani on an outstanding felony warrant pertaining to weapon and drug charges.
Local residents will spend the weekend learning, planting, weeding, hauling and sprucing up during Earth Day focused activities and cleanup events. The Downtown Camas Association will hold its inaugural Clean-Up and Planting Day on Sunday. The event will begin at 1 p.m., when those who would like to volunteer to help out should meet at the corner of Northeast Fourth Avenue and Cedar Street.
Progress and pride propelled the Panther boys and girls track and field squads to first place at the 12-team Al McKee Invitational Saturday, at Stevenson High School. "Anytime you have success, it breeds a little more confidence and a little more pride," said head coach Dave Hajek. "Our girls and our boys expect to do well. When expectations are driven more by the athletes than the coaches, it's fun to just sit back and watch them perform. I don't feel like I have to say anything. They police themselves and they push themselves to get better." The Washougal boys racked up 166.5 points. Kalama was second with 149 points and all the other teams were under 100. The Panther girls edged La Center 113 to 112.5 for first place. The rest of the teams were under 100.
Lacamas Community Credit Union will host two financial education seminars in May. A seminar on "Social Security and Your Retirement," hosted by Lacamas Insurance & Investments, is set for Tuesday, May 15, at 6:30 p.m., at the Camas Public Library, 625 N.E. Fourth Ave.
The next "Wild Wednesday" at Deja Vu Camas will feature glamour shots. Kate Singh, from Aveum Images, will be available April 18, to take "Look Like a Movie Star" photos from 5 to 7 p.m.
Country singer and songwriter Tom Mann will perform as part of the anniversary celebration at English Estate Winery. The estate will celebrate 109 years in Clark County and 12 years as a winery Saturday. Mann's performance is scheduled for 3 to 6 p.m.
Step-Ahead Preschool hosts parent meeting There will be an open house for all interested parents, particularly for those parents of children in the "birth-to-3" programs moving to "3-to-5" programs in the Camas School District.
Albert E. Bennett Albert E. Bennett, of Washougal, died April 4, 2012, at his home surrounded by his wife and children. He was 77.
